Clinical Psychologist in Home Treatment Team and Liaison Psychiatry

Job summary

This is a newly created full time post, offering varied and interesting work for an experienced clinical psychologist to join two well established and dynamic teams - the Home Treatment Team and Psychiatric Liaison Team.

This is an 8a post, but we welcome applicants at Band 7 who are willing to undertake a preceptorship to progress to an 8a banding.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will divide their time between both teams and work closely with the Operational Manager, Consultant Psychiatrists and other senior team members, providing a highly specialist clinical or counselling psychology service to service users of both teams. They will receive supervision from the LeadAcuteConsultant Clinical Psychologist, and have links to both the acute and community psychology teams.

They will work across a range of settings - mental health services, the acute medical hospital wards and A&E. They will provide consultation, co-working, teaching, training supervision and research.

Acute services in Hillingdon have a well-established team delivering trauma informed approaches in acute services and the post holder will be part of this team and will receive training and supervision to lead on implementing a trauma informed approach within the Home Treatment Team and Psychiatric Liaison.

The post holder will undertake assessment, psychological interventions and family interventions for the most complex presentations and to contribute to safe therapeutic discharge plans in order to enhance recovery and prevent relapse.They will provide longer term therapy to a small caseload of service users. Additionally, the post holder will establish group therapy interventions, helping service users who have presented in crisis to develop safety and stabilisation skills.

Job responsibilities

Clinical:

  1. To provide specialist psychological assessments of service users referred to the teams based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with service users, service users family members and others involved in the service users care. Ensuring all service users referred to the teams have equitable access to the range of psychological interventions applicable to the service based on presenting need.

  1. To formulate and implement focused plans for the formal psychological treatment and / or management of a service users mental health challenges, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the service users challenges, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings.

To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, within and across teams employed individually and in synthesis, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.

2. To continue to gain additional specialist experience and skills relevant to HTT, psych liaison and clinical or counselling psychology service and the amount and nature of such experience to be agreed with the head of specialty.

  1. To develop skills in the area of professional post-graduate teaching, training and supervision and to provide supervision to other MDT staffs psychological work, as appropriate.

  1. To provide professional and clinical supervision of assistant / graduate psychologists and as appropriate, to contribute to the supervision of individual cases for trainee clinical psychologists.

  1. To contribute to the pre- and post-qualification teaching of clinical or counselling psychology.

  1. To provide advice, consultation and training to staff working with the service user group across a range of agencies and settings, where appropriate.

Management, recruitment, policy and service development

  1. As a senior team member to contribute to the development, evaluation and monitoring of the teams operational policies and services, through the deployment of professional skills in research, service evaluation and audit.

  1. To advise both service and professional management on those aspects of the service where psychological and / or organisational matters need addressing.

  1. To manage the workloads of assistant and graduate psychologists, and trainee clinical psychologists, within the framework of the teams policies and procedures.

  1. To be involved, as appropriate, in the short listing and interviewing of assistant / graduate psychologists under the direction of the Borough Head of Adult Psychology and HTT and Psych Liaison staff under the direction of the Operational Manager. Ensuring the Trusts Equality Diversity and Inclusivity polices are rigorously followed.

  1. As negotiated and within time constraints, the post holder will be expected to attend relevant clinical meetings within and outside the service.

ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE HOW TESTED

TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS

Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology or its equivalent, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS.

Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology.

Experience of using family/ systemic interventions.

EXPERIENCE

Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of service users across the full range of care settings, including, community, primary care and in service user settings.
