We are looking to recruit a highly motivated, innovative and enthusiastic Band 3 Healthcare Support Worker to join our Integrated Healthcare Service at HMP YOI Feltham. Feltham is effectively two separate establishments delivering healthcare services to Young people in Feltham A (15-19 years) and adults in Feltham B. By joining our team, you will not only look after the healthcare needs of the young people we care for, but also have the opportunity to have a real impact on promoting health and well-being

This role will involve regular Night work.

Main duties of the job

Working in partnership with the criminal justice system and other agencies, we provide responsive, dependable and high quality primary care and mental health services to existing offenders (and those at risk of offending) in the communities we serve, to improve their health status and to encourage social inclusion.

By demonstrating skills and knowledge the post holder will contribute to the growth and maintenance of key functions of the clinical area by carrying out assigned tasks, involving direct and indirect care to patients, under minimal supervision and as directed by the nurse in charge.

The post will primarily involve night cover for which enhancements are paid as per NHS Agenda for change terms.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Assist other members of the team to ensure a high standard of nursing care. Provide direct physical care to a designated group of patients through participation in the care planning, provision and evaluation of patients needs under the supervision and direction of trained nursing staff. To ensure all clinical areas are well maintained, fully stocked, kept clean tidy and safe for daily clinical use.

Some duties will include Controlled drug second checking, medication administration (Training/supervision provided), attending emergencies and participating with registered professional present.

Recognise and respect the patients as individuals with the same rights, needs and emotions as everyone else. Promote the dignity and self-esteem of patients at all times. Assisting qualified staff in the assessment of patients needs and the implementation of individual plans of care. Ensuring patient records are updated ensuring that they are up to date, clearly written and timely as required and to escalate any concerns or significant findings to the nurse in charge. Contribute to handovers, team and business meeting regularly and use the service communication systems to ensure information is used effectively.

Liaise with colleagues to find ways to optimise and improve services, identifying resources required. Assisting with health promotion and ensuring relevant health promotional materials are available to patients at all times.

Promote and maintain good working relationships with colleagues and key third party stakeholders. Be aware of how your verbal, non-verbal and written communication can be interpreted by others, ensure that a polite approach and strict confidentially is maintained at all times.

Ensure own career progression is maintained by participating in training where needs are identified. Co-operate with supervisor to facilitate effective management supervision. Work towards NVQ in Care Level 2 or 3 / Promoting Independence where this has not been achieved.

Excellent options for career progression are available include Nursing Associate apprenticeship.
