Specialist Grade Doctor in Psychiatry (Hillingdon HBPoS)
We are seeking a Specialist Grade Doctor in Psychiatry to join the Hillingdon HBPoS Team on Frays Ward, located at Riverside Centre, Pield Heath Road in Uxbridge. You will be part of a Multi-disciplinary Team responsible for carrying out detailed psychiatric assessments and risk assessments and to contribute to planning and implementing service users' care plans, under CPA procedures and guidelines.
This role provides a great opportunity to build your experience in the NHS . You will have a comprehensive induction, and if you choose you can access our CESR programme to work towards consultant status.
The successful candidate should have been in a relevant specialty in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades for a minimum of six years. They should have an inclusive, compassionate and service user focused approach.

Main duties of the job
ACUTE SERVICE - RIVERSIDE, HILLINGDON
Riverside Centre is on the Hillingdon Hospital site and consists of the following:
- Frays Ward - 18 beds Acute Ward - male
- Crane Ward -18 beds Acute Ward - female
- Colne Ward - 8 beds PICU - male; with a seclusion room
- Health-Based Place of Safety (HBPos) - 3 suites
Acute wards provide inpatient services to patients aged 18 and over who are residents of the London Boroughs of Hillingdon, whilst the Colne Ward is a Trust-wide provision. A proportion of patients come from other boroughs under the CNWL services, if no available beds were available at the time of admission. The nursing and medical teams are complemented by a range of therapy staff such as: Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Sports instructor and Peer Support Worker.
The post holder will provide senior clinical decision making oversight of patients brought to the HBPoS, by supporting the on call duty doctor and participating in Mental Health Act assessments.

Job responsibilities
To lead the assessment and management of patients admitted to Frays Ward, in conjunction with the ward consultant.
To provide senior clinical decision making oversight of patients brought to the HBPoS, by supporting the on call duty doctor and participating in Mental Health Act assessments.
To ensure that onward decisions from the HBPoS are made in a timely way. This will include providing support and advice on alternative services should admission be not required.
To be the point of contact for psychiatric advice to Lighthouse Lounge staff as and when requested.
Participation in the Middle Grade on-call Rota for Hillingdon.
General duties
To review and advise on treatment plans and risk assessments as required for Frays ward patients, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
To carry out and make detailed notes of assessments and treatment plans devised for the patients in HBPoS care.
To conduct interviews with relatives and carers as required.
To initiate and facilitate meetings with professionals and families as appropriate.
To arrange safe transfers for each patient, in a timely manner.
To facilitate relevant referrals to mental health teams and other external services.
To participate in MHA assessments for patients in the HBPoS
To adhere to Trust local policies and procedures, including policies and procedures related to the management of medication and physical healthcare.
- To prepare medico-legal reports should they be required for Frays ward and HPBoS patients, and to support presentations to Managers hearings and Medial Health Review Tribunals if covering for ward consultants and other ward doctors not available.
- To complete full risk assessments for each patient in conjunction with the MDT on Frays ward and in the HBPoS.
- To liaise with all external agencies as required and attend meetings as appropriate.
- To take part in the 2nd on-call Rota (currently 1 in 10) including attendance on the wards at weekends.
- To chair and supervise ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meeting as and when required.
- To support training of other team members, nursing colleagues, medical and nursing students.
- To maintain accurate records of whiteboard meeting, ward rounds and any other reviews relevant to this role.
- To participate in continuing professional development .
- To participate in annual appraisal in line with the Trust policy.

- Full GMC Registration with a license to practice
- To be section 12(2) MHA 1983 approved (or achieve within 6 months of apt), if not have Approved Clinician (AC) status/approval and be on the AC Register
- A minimum of six years should have been in a relevant specialty in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades
- Equivalent years' experience in a relevant specialty from other medical grades including from overseas
