Situated at the St. Charles Mental health Centre on a 24/7 basis & is staffed by a dedicated multidisciplinary team. The Health based Place of Safety service (HBPOS) is one of the points of admission in the Trust for all persons requiring care in a hospital-based place of safety.
HBPOS team is responsible for:
Providing care to persons admitted to the Place of Safety in accordance with the Place of Safety Care Pathway.
Facilitating a Mental Health Act assessment within a specified time frame.
Formulating a discharge or transfer plan that provides the appropriate level of on-going care.
Ensuring the safety & wellbeing of all users of the service.
The role of the Health Based Place of Safety manager is to be both the clinical & operational lead of the team and to ensure high, quality, patient-centered, effective, safe & efficient care is delivered by the teams. The role involves providing care & support to individuals detained under Section 136 MHA (1983 as amended 2007).

Main duties of the job
The HBPoS Manager will have overall management responsibility for the delivery of care.
HBPoS in accordance with Trust policies and procedures and National Guidance. To lead a team of nursing staff in the delivery of high-quality evidence-based practice, ensuring that regular supervision and appraisal take place. To manage administrative and operational resources in a cost-effective manner, evaluating the standard of service delivered. To co-ordinate multidisciplinary working, maintaining excellent communication and working relationships with all team members,and other services within the Trust, to ensure effective interface and continuity of care between disciplines and services.
The post holder will oversee nursing procedures to a standard that ensures safe and effective care and complies with The Nursing and Midwifery Council's Code of Professional Conduct. There is an expectation that the post holder will place the needs of service users at the centre of care delivery in accordance with the Pan London 136 Guidance and relevant Trust Policies. The HBPoS Manager will be a visible, accessible and authoritative presence in clinical areas providing assistance, advice and support to staff, patients, relatives, carers and visitors.
The post holder will lead in the management of the seclusion room in the unit providing clear leadership including both operational management and clinical leadership to ensure effective high standards of care.

Ensure that all communication (verbal or written) between the ward and other departments or agencies is of a high standard both in its content and presentation.
Ensure that all written and electronically stored information is accessible only to authorised personnel and is stored in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
Ensure that administrative staff are aware of the importance of the collection of statistical data and ensure that this is collected and stored in an accurate and timely fashion.

Participating in projects within the Unit and Trust as required by the senior management of the Directorate.
Support the development of performance standards within the Service/Department to ensure the service is responsive to and meeting the needs of its customers.
