We are looking for a part Band 6 Occupational Therapist (OT) with post graduate experience to join our Occupational Therapy Team in our adult acute mental health wards. This is an ideal post for a Band 5 thinking of their next career move as there is an established, supportive OT team within the service consisting of a Band 7, Band 6 and 5 roles. The post is for 37.5 hours a week. Occupational Therapy is considered to be a crucial part of the MDT, supporting the recovery principles in the team and having unique and specialised skills to contribute.

We recognise that Band 6's are often the backbone of our clinical teams and we will therefore support their development both clinically and managerially. You will have opportunities to supervise staff, be an educator and have access to both internal and external training. You will receive support from your peers, ward/team manager, matron, Trauma Informed Team formulation as well as receiving individual Occupational Therapy supervision.

Main duties of the job

The post is in the Acute Mental Health service in Harrow and is based at Northwick Park Hospital.

The post holder will provide an OT specific role within the teams consisting of assessment, group work and individual interventions and would work as part of the established OT and MDT team. They will work within the recovery framework encouraging independence, social integration and achievement of personalized recovery goals and Trauma Informed Approaches.

Applicants will have a BSc/PgDip/MSc OT and be HCPC registered. Post graduate experience within an adult mental health setting is essential and community experience would be desirable. Applicants must have good organizational and communication skills and be able to work effectively within a team

To provide the multidisciplinary team (MDT) on the Treatment ward with an occupational therapy service and expertise; this will include individual and group work, assessment, intervention and evaluation in accordance with the Royal College of Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics.

To manage a caseload of service users with complex, severe and enduring mental health needs; using evidence based and recovery principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate treatment.

To integrate evidence based practice and skilful use of assessments & interventions with personal recovery principles in order to improve the service users quality of life and to support them to do the things they want to do and live the life they want to lead.

To apply a high level of understanding of the effects of mental illness and physical conditions; providing training and advice on lifestyle changes and adaptations to the service users social and physical environment. This will include undertaking assessments and making recommendations with regards to the provision of equipment/aids and adaptations.

To contribute to service development of Local & Trust wide OT services.

To act as fieldwork educator to students on practice placement.

To undertake the Preceptorship process as outlined by RCOT guidelines and CNWL Trust policy where applicable.
