Job summary
There is an opportunity for new or recently qualified Speech and Language Therapists within the Milton Keynes Adult SLT team to work with people with acquired swallowing and communication difficulties as a result of stroke, and other conditions, within Milton Keynes University Hospital and in the community across the new city of Milton Keynes.
We aim to meet the needs of the service while recognising that therapists may benefit from a broad range of experience, and therefore there will also be opportunities to work in other clinical areas.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will carry out assessment, treatment and management of adults with acquired speech, language, voice and communication needs, and eating and drinking difficulties.
Principle Duties
- To provide speech and language therapy within the Adult Speech and Language Therapy Service.
- To provide advice, training and support to relatives, carers, non-specialists and other professionals working with adults in a range of settings including health and social care settings.
- To be an effective member of the SLT team and the broader multidisciplinary team.
- To participate in service development as required.
To undertake other duties, as requested by the line manager to ensure the efficient, effective running of the SLT Service.

- To provide advice to others regarding the management and care of adults with communication and swallowing disorders
- To participate in specialist and multi-disciplinary assessment including videofluoroscopy
- To ensure clients/relatives/carers are involved in the planning and prioritisation of care plans
- To participate in multi-disciplinary planning of intervention/management to meet identified goals
