Job summary

Join us for a unique opportunity to combine specialist clinical psychology practice in a cohesive psycho-oncology team at a leading London cancer centre, with leadership experience on a proven and successful Schwartz Rounds project that aims to embed a compassionate and reflective culture across a major acute hospital Trust.

This post was established as a Macmillan project post in 2015, and now has permanent Trust funding as a core part of the ongoing Schwartz Rounds program at Imperial, while also maintaining Macmillan support for the clinical aspect of the role.

The psychologist in this post will be part of the core operational team for Schwartz Rounds at Imperial. They will contribute to all aspects of the project, including facilitating Rounds (for which they will undertake specific external training) and strategic planning, and will work towards leading in developing, training and engaging a diverse group of facilitators, and supervising the assistant/coordinator to achieve a reliable operational flow. Now in its fourth year, the ambition of our Schwartz team is to make a distinct difference to organisational culture across Imperial, promoting reflection, connection and compassion.

Main duties of the job

The psychologist will also provide direct and indirect clinical input as part of the psycho-oncology team at Imperial, who provide an embedded, cancer-specialist psychological resource for all cancer MDTs, patients and carers at Imperial. They will provide inpatient and outpatient input at Charing Cross, liaise and work alongside cancer CNSs and MDTs, and contribute to our active teaching, training, quality and service development plans. Our team works cohesively, flexibly and responsively, with weekly team meetings to discuss clinical plans and share expertise, as well as individual supervision. We actively pursue opportunities to contribute to relevant projects, collaborations, innovations and policy regionally and nationally, which will offer opportunities to develop special interests and expertise, as well the Macmillan-sponsored role offering ample CPD funding.

The balance between these aspects of the role is broadly equal, though typically this will vary by week to week and will require (and offer) flexibility. The psychologist in this post will work very closely with, and be supported & supervised by, the Consultant Clinical Psychologist who also spans both Schwartz and clinical roles.
