Clinical Support Worker - Pre Op Assessment Unit

Job summary

  • An exciting opportunity for an experienced and confident Clinical Support Worker to join the POA team at FHG on a fixed term contract covering maternity leave.
  • Work in support of and under the direction of a Pre-OperativeAssessment Nurse, providing nursing care and assistance to patients within defined parameters specified by the Pre-Operative Assessment Nurse (RN).
  • Record patient information.
  • Provide basic patient care and document that care in the patient records.
  • Perform Relevant Clinical Skills: Phlebotomy / ECG

Main duties of the job

  • Work effectively with the multidisciplinary team in order to achieve desired outcomes that promote the wellbeing of patients.

  • Assist the RN's in the delivery of care to a designated patient group, demonstrating an ability to prioritise such care.

  • Assist in the implementation of direct clinical care.

  • Determine the comfort of patients by talking and listening to them and building up a rapport

  • Ensure that all care provided by yourself is documented appropriately.

  • Recognise changes in patient condition and report to a RN.

  • Ensure patient dignity and individual patient needs are met.

  • Support RN's in providing information and advice on health promotion.

  • Instigate emergency procedures e.g. fire; CPR.

  • Responsible for high standards of cleanliness and follow all guidelines set by infection control policy.

  • Undertake training and practice of agreed clinical competencies in basic nursing skills for designated area.

  • Keep up to date with changes in clinical practice and the effect of these on your role.

  • Work as an effective team member of the clinical team and support continued team development.

  • Carry out and record basic observation/test results and report changes to a Pre-Operative Assessment Nurse (RN).

  • Undertakes simple procedures using aseptic technique

  • Performs a range of relevant clinical skills e.g. Phlebotomy, ECG,

About us

We operatefrom three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, andUlverstonCommunity Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies,daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

  • Good general education including literacy and numeracy skills
  • Completed Trust support worker development programme
  • Evidence of venepuncture skills
  • Experience of manual handling of patient
  • Previous experience of working in a care environment
  • Able to accurately update patient records for care delivered including changes to patient condition.
  • Ability to carry out routine duties acting on own initiative with limited supervision.
  • Ability to use IT skills proficiently on using relevant IT systems.
  • Ability to supervise others eg T-level students, new Band 3 CSW etc
  • Caring, Self motivated, Enthusiastic, Approachable, Diplomatic, Innovative and Flexible

Desirable

  • ECDL or equivalent
  • Experience of recording ECG's
  • Previous experience in OPD

Education & Qualifications

  • Completion of the NHS Care Certificate or equivalent relevant experience to vocational qualification level 3, or a willingness to undertake this.
  • Good standard of basic English and Maths
  • Knowledge and skills at manual handling of patients using lifting aids and adaptions.
  • Good standard of basic IT skills such as emailing, Teams and Word / Excel
