Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for someone to come and join us in our WGH service, as part of the Pre-Operative Assessment team. We are looking for someone with previous experience of POA due to this being a fix term temporary role covering maternity leave.
You will become part of a very proactive POA team who work hard to ensure the Trusts theatre capacity is fully utilised whilst also ensuring patients have a safe and positive experience of elective surgery.
You will need to be organised, have excellent time management, able to multi-task, have excellent written and verbal communication skills. You should be passionate about elective surgery and understand the risks of anaesthetic and surgery and also have a good understanding of co-morbidities before and during surgery.
Main duties of the job
Undertaking pre-operative holistic assessments including management of complex co-morbidities, health promotion, optimisation, physical examination and be able to work to a high level of autonomy.
You will be working collaboratively and cooperatively with surgical clinicians, anaesthetists, the waiting list officers, GP's, Clinical investigations, Cardiologists, Respiratory physicians, Endocrinologist plus other clinical specialists.
Your role will be to make sure that the patients you see are fit, ready and available for the elective surgery they are planned at a site that is safe for them and in a time scale that works for the Trust and the patients.

We operatefrom three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, andUlverstonCommunity Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies,daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
