Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Nurse to join us in our Research Delivery Team. We cover a diverse range of studies including oncology, respiratory, diabetes, rheumatology, cardiology and surgical and welcome applicants from a wide range of clinical backgrounds.

Our studies range from observational studies through to phase 2 and 3 interventional clinical trials. We also helped to deliver cutting edge novel therapies and vaccines during the Covid pandemic.

The role will suit somebody who has some research experience and is interested in developing their knowledge further within the field of clinical trial delivery. This role is patient facing and will involve conducting research studies in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.

This job is being offered as a full-time (37.5 hours per week) position, however, job-sharing or flexible working could be considered for the right applicant(s). We would also welcome applications for this post as a secondment, provided that your current line-manager has agreed to facilitate this.

On successful appointment, there is a tailored induction and training program.

The role is mainly based at RLI but some cross bay working will be expected.

Main duties of the job

  • Coordination of suitable studies.
  • Delivery of investigative medicines.
  • Working closely with the team to deliver the wider portfolio of studies from study set-up to close out
  • You will be responsible for assessing and managing the care pathways for patients and carers participating in clinical studies whilst adhering to the principles of Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
  • Recruitment, education and monitoring of research participants and the collection and documentation of accurate data including collection and management of tissue and/or samples.
  • Supporting a wide range of research clinics.
  • Processing lab samples.
  • Conducting assessments as per the study protocol.
  • Collecting physical assessments.
  • Supervising and supporting junior staff.
  • Organisation and prioritising of workload
  • Ability to work under pressure

About us

We operatefrom three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, andUlverstonCommunity Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies,daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
