Job summary

The core purpose of the Multidisciplinary Teams (MDT) Coordinator is to provide consistent patient-centred focus throughout the pathway of care, by providing one point of contact along the administration pathway for the Multidisciplinary Teams.This will ensure coordination of the patient journey, especially for patients that need to move between cancer units and cancer centres.The MDT Coordinator will be responsible for tracking the patient along their care pathway with the team and identifying potential breaches of cancer waiting times and targets.

The role will ensure that all relevant patients are discussed at MDT meetings with supporting clinical information.Also, accurate prescriptive data collection and recording to enable effective patient tracking of all suspected and positively diagnosed cancer patients.

The post holder will be responsible for the coordination and organisation of the multi-disciplinary team meetings, and will attend these meetings obtaining and recording relevant information. Theywill collect, record and report cancer information as required in order to meet both national and local requirements.

The post holder will be responsible for the coordination of reports, investigations, radiology results and clinic appointments. They will be required to work closely and proactively with the clinical teams and work collaboratively within the cancer services team ensuring the consistent delivery of service.

Main duties of the job

  1. Facilitation of MDT Meetings: Organising and ensuring the smooth operation of weekly tumour-specific MDT meetings, including real-time documentation of MDT outcomes and recording attendance.
  2. Patient Tracking: Managing the Patient Tracking List (PTL) to ensure patients progress through their diagnostic and treatment pathways in accordance with National Cancer Waiting Times targets.
  3. Data Management: Accurately entering cancer data into the Cancer Database (Somerset Cancer Registry) for submission to Cancer Waiting Time, COSD, and Clinical Audits.
  4. Communication: Coordinating with various healthcare professionals, including consultants, nurses, and managers, to ensure effective communication and patient care.
  5. Flexibility and Organisation: Working flexibly, organising and prioritising a busy workload, remaining calm under pressure, and meeting tight deadlines.

These responsibilities ensure that patients receive timely and coordinated care throughout their cancer treatment journey.

About us

We operatefrom three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, andUlverstonCommunity Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies,daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

  • Educated to A level standard or NVQ level 3 or equivalent experience
  • ECDL or recognised typing qualification or relevant experience
  • Knowledge of NHS data definitions relating to Cancer Standards and Cancer waiting times
  • Experience in using hospital IT systems such as Lorenzo
  • Knowledge of Data Protection Issues and the requirement for confidentiality and accountability
  • Advanced software skills including Microsoft Office systems and an ability to produce documents
  • Able to demonstrate effective organisational skills and time management
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Ability to oversee the workload of junior team members
  • Demonstrates a high level of self-motivation
  • Ability to cope with large workload and prioritise activities according to deadlines.
