Job summary
We are seeking a compassionate and caring individual to join our team, who has a desire to provide high standards of care for patients on Ward 36 at Royal Lancaster Infirmary.
Ward 36 is a Trauma and Orthopaedic Ward, caring for patients who are recovering from Orthopaedic Surgery or Orthopaedic Injuries - and are dependant upon high standards of care and support to reach their full potential . Ensuring patient dignity and individual patient needs are met at all times is central to this role - and working to maintain a clean and safe ward environment.
You will work with the support of and under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), providing nursing care and assistance to patients within defined parameters specified by the Registered Nurse
Record patient data
Provide basic fundamental care need for all patients and document that care in the patient's notes or paper charts.
Main duties of the job
Work effectively with the multidisciplinary team in order to achieve desired outcomes that promote the well-being of the patient.
Assist the RN's in the delivery of care to a designated patient group, demonstrating an ability to prioritize workload
Assist in the implementation of direct clinical care
Determine the comfort of patients by talking and listening to them and building up a rapport
Assist in feeding of patients who are unable to do so themselves and complete food charts where required
Ensure that all care provided by yourself is documented
Recognize changes in patient condition
Ensure patient dignity and individual patient needs are met
Support RN's in providing information and advice on health
Instigate emergency procedures e.g. fire; CPR.
Act as an effective role model for all ward staff
Assist in ensuring that effective channels are used to canvas the views and concerns of all patients
Responsible for high standards of cleanliness and follow all guidelines set by infection control
Undertake training and practice of agreed clinical competencies in basic nursing skills for designated
Keep up to date with changes in clinical practice and the effect of these on your role.
Work as an effective team member of the clinical team and support continued team
Carry out and record basic observation/test results and report changes to a Registered Nurse (RN).
About us
We operate from three main hospitals -Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
