Job summary
You will work as part of the Ophthalmology Department Team to provide a high-quality ophthalmology service that aims to provide excellent patient care.
This post will support the specialist at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust. This is a 10 PA job plan. In addition, there is a requirement to cover 5-hour Saturday and Sunday emergency clinics on a 1:9 Rota with the other senior decision makers at consultant level in the department and take part in the 1:9 or on-call Rota.

About us
We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies ,day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education and Qualifications
Essential
- Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
- Medical Degree from a recognised university
- FRCS or recognised equivalent qualification
- Meets the criteria set out in the Specialist grade generic capabilities framework.
Desirable
- Higher Degree
- Specialist Registration
- Working towards a CESR
Experience
Essential
- Completed a minimum of 12 years' medical work (either continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification of which a minimum of six years should have been in Ophthalmology in the Specialty Doctor and / or closed SAS grades.
- Equivalent years' experience in relevant specialty from other medical grades including from overseas will also be accepted.

- Independent practice in Ophthalmology
