Job summary
The band 6 clinical lead in the emergency department will provide excellent leadership and management for staff to ensure safe and quality care is provided.
You will be expected to lead by example, support the unit manager, take charge of shifts and will share responsibility for meeting key performance indicators.
The role requires you to support all grades of staff, directing activities to provide the optimal standard of care and maintain staff wellbeing.
At times you will be asked to deputise for the unit manager and be involved in the development of policies and SOP's.
Main duties of the job
Providing evidence based quality care for patients and service users.
To co-ordinate and take charge of the department
To ensure staff wellbeing is upheld and that patient care is delivered in a safe and timely manner in adherence to local policies and procedures.
Maintain a good working relationship with all specialities/MDT
Encourage growth and training within the team, supporting more junior staff.
About us
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

1st Level Registered Nurse
Essential
- 1st level registered nurse. Recent post basic clinical qualification in relevant area
- Recent relevant experience at senior level within the speciality. Evidence of clinical competence in speciality. Able to assume a lead clinical role as appropriate. Understanding of the setting and monitoring of standards. Evidence of teaching and developing staff. Able to work as a member of the multidisciplinary clinical team
- Demonstrable appropriate/specific clinical skills to designated area
Desirable
- Recent leadership development or willingness to work towards a leadership qualification
- Advanced life support
- European Paediatric Advanced life support
