We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced SLT to join the leadership team for the Adult Speech and Language Therapy service at the University of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMB).
This role of the Clinical & Professional Lead Speech and Language Therapist will be to provide clinical oversight of all our SLT pathways in UHMB, provide clinical supervision to the SLT team and lead on our workforce development plan.

Essential experience for this role-
Advanced dysphagia skills in a range of conditions
Advanced skills in objective assessment- VFE and FEEs
Experience in altered airways- tracheostomy and laryngectomy
Experience in QI and audit and leading service improvements
Main duties of the job
The post- holder will work with the Clinical Service Manager to progress our SLT clinical strategy to improve our clinical pathways for our patients and support our SLT's in their clinical and professional development. You will be supported by senior AHP colleagues in the Division.
You will join a supportive team of SLTs who are leading on our "grown our own" ethos as a service, offering regular clinical supervision with links across the region as well as offering both in-house and external CPD opportunities.
We are situated on the fringes of the Lake District National Park offering opportunities to promote a positive work life balance with many of our team enjoying outdoor activities such as cycling, hiking, running and wild swimming. Additionally, there is the opportunity for flexible working hours.
Main duties of the job
- Providing clinical & professional leadership for the Adult Speech and Language Therapy team.
- Ensuring clinical supervision & CPD plans are in place for all SLTs and SLT assistants in the team.
- Representing SLT at appropriate forums in Trust and across Lancashire and South Cumbria.
- Provision of expert SLT advice and guidance to the wider multi-disciplinary teams across acute and community pathways.
- Delivering direct SLT assessments and treatments to clients on a 1-1 basis, as well as consultative approach.
About us
We operatefrom three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, andUlverstonCommunity Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies,daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Experience
Essential
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Speech and Language Therapy as recognised by the RCSLT, including a certificate to practice
- Post registration clinical qualification in relevant specialist area
- Evidence of professional development and clinical expertise acquired through specialist training or equivalent experience to masters level
- Educated to Masters level, on a Masters pathway or prepared to undertake Masters degreers
- Demonstrable post registration experience at senior grade
- Experience in the development of policies, procedures and practice guidelines
- Exercise a high degree of autonomy within specialist area
- Evidence of mentoring, assessing, teaching and developing staff
- Experience of and ability to work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team
- Current knowledge and experience

- Experience of working collaboratively with other disciplines
