Job summary

Ward 22 is a 24 bedded in-patient unit which provides a high standard of care to patients requiring therapy support, discharge planning and support with activities of daily living. The ward has a team of knowledgeable and dedicated staff that provide care and support based on patient need to local patients and those from surrounding areas.

The unit works around the clock based on a early, late and nightshift pattern to ensure continuous care is provided in a safe and effective environment.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Health care assistant to join our team. The post is an 18 hour permanent contract consisting of shifts as follows: long days 07:00 - 20:00, early 07:00 - 15:00, Late 12:00 to 20:00 and nightshift which is 19:30- 07:30. The hospital provides 24 Hr care for in- patients.

The successful candidate will be welcomed as part of the team and will be supported by all staff during the induction period implemented on recruitment.

Training will be given to the successful candidate however, there will be an expectation that the applicant will have previous experience in a care setting and will be willing to undertake further training and education.

The successful candidate should ideally be honest, flexible and importantly reliable.

Main duties of the job

The main role of the health care assistant is to provide a very high standard of care to each individual based on patient needs.

The role of the health care assistant involves supporting the qualified nurse in her role, this will include carrying out all activities of daily living with patient and reporting to the nurse any findings, assisting with dressings and wound care, using good moving and handling techniques to ensure a high standard of pressure care is given and to use the IT system to accurately document patient care and concerns. These are a few of the expectations of the successful candidate, the job description outlines this more clearly.

About us

We operatefrom three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, andUlverstonCommunity Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies,daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
