Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (ANNP) to become part of our team in our Special Care Baby Unit at Furness General Hospital. Whilst predominantly SC activity, there is a small amount of intensive and high dependency care.

SCBU is housed within the new South Lakes Birth Centre at Furness General Hospital.

We have a level 1 Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at Barrow. There are 4 cots and a stabilisation unit. We also offer Transitional Care. SCBU is housed within our new maternity unit (South Lakes Birthing Centre) We also offer Transitional Care. Whilst predominantly SC activity, there is a small amount of intensive and high dependency care.

We are a family focused unit and are working towards Family Integrated Care accreditation.

We are a forward-thinking team, always implementing new ways of working.

We have a close working relationship with our paediatric and maternity teams within the Women and Children's Care Group.

We work closely with our Level 2 Neonatal Unit at our Royal Lancaster Infirmary site in Lancaster and Level 3 units cross the Northwest Neonatal Network.

Main duties of the job

You will work as part of the nursing and medical team providing advanced care with autonomy in accordance with local and national guidelines and protocols. You will demonstrate highly specialist knowledge and skills in the care of sick and preterm babies.

You will take responsibility for babies and families within the Special Care Baby Unit at FGH, delivering optimal care: planning, delegating, evaluating care ensuring that evidence-based practice is inherent. You will demonstrate clinical expertise, competence, confidence and be able to work within an autonomous and defined scope of practice, in collaboration with healthcare colleagues.

Your role will include supporting colleagues to deliver high quality care through educational opportunities and dynamic leadership.

You will be an expert in your field and able to communicate effectively whilst being a role model and resource for others. You will be independently managing clinical conditions, making autonomous decisions and seeking advice when appropriate.

Your base will be at FGH, Barrow however there will be an expectation that you work alongside and support our team within our Neonatal Unit at Lancaster.

About us

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Our community services for adults are provided in people's homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.
