Job summary
The Infant feeding lead Midwife will lead, develop and support the staff and service users across the UHMBT service. In conjunction with the LMNS, the post holder will provide assurance to key stakeholders and the trust with regards to progress and developments within the service.
This is a part time post working as a job share with another infant feeding lead. As part of the NHS 3 year delivery plan, the post holder will support the service to achieve and maintain the WHO Baby friendly status to full accreditation and sustainability.
Main duties of the job
- Work autonomously within locally agreed policies and guidelines, taking into account NMC guidance in relation to practice whilst ensuring that other midwifery practitioners do the same.
- Act as an enabler for safe and effective care working across community and inpatient settings to promote best practice through enhancements in multi-disciplinary working, clinical recording and support professional practice.
- Fully adopt the work of the Baby Friendly Initiative across the Women and Children's Care Group, with an aim to achieve and maintain the Baby Friendly Initiative award and progressing to the GOLD 'Achieving Sustainability' award, preparing staff fully for any assessments.
- Support the Head of Midwifery in delivering organisational objectives for infant feeding and the promotion of breast feeding within public health and health inequalities / priorities.
- Through direct clinical care and influencing/leadership skills with other practitioners, empower women to make informed decisions about infant feeding.
- Provide leadership and support for all peer supporters, support staff, midwives, neonatal/paediatric staff and all maternity / medical staff and community staff in the area of infant feeding.
- Responsibility for monitoring and developing Trust policy / guidelines in response to local needs / audit findings and evidence in relation to infant nutrition and safeguarding.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies,daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
