Job summary

UHMBT are looking for a Senior Assistant Technical Officer (SATO) to join our Pharmacy Clinical Trials team, based at Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

Are you dynamic, friendly and have a keen interest to be involved in supporting the provision of new and novel medicines to patients enrolled in clinical studies across Morecambe Bay?

The prime function of the Pharmacy Clinical Trials unit is the management and dispensing of Investigational Medicinal Products (IMP) under strict protocols and regulations.

To apply for this post you must have extensive knowledge and experience of providing high quality dispensing services from a hospital Pharmacy

Have an understanding of what good governance looks like and be able to work in accordance with Good Clinical Practice regulations.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties

Ensure quality of pharmacy site files are maintained in preparation for monitoring visits.

Support and facilitate monitoring visits by external clinical trial sponsors

Deal with clinical trial stock, in regards to patient returns, expired stock and destruction of investigational medicinal products (IMPs) appropriately, following clinical trial procedures.

You will be responsible for temperature monitoring of IMPs and ensuring any excursions are managed appropriately and efficiently.

You will need to respond promptly to receive deliveries

To help improve the clinical trials service, you will be involved in audit data collection and reporting.

As this is a specialist role, full training will be provided , although a qualification in Pharmacy Services is a requirement of the role

About us

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Essential

  • English and Maths GCSE grade C or above
  • NVQ and Btec level 2 in Pharmacy Services

Desirable

  • Completion of a recognised OTC sales course

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in hospital pharmacy or other Pharmacy Setting
  • Experience in dispensing medications, drugs receipt, record keeping and cold chain maintenance

Desirable

  • JAC trained
  • Experience with clinical trials
  • Experience with Aseptic preparation

Skills Ability and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Pharmacy working procedures and current drugs legislation
  • Working knowledge of Health and Safety regulations including Control of substances Hazoardous to Health (COSHH)
