We have a rare and exciting opportunity for you to join our friendly team as a Band 6 Specialist Screening Practitioner. We have two posts available in our Kendal team.
The Specialist Screening Practitioner's role is to assess a person's fitness for colonoscopy. It is essential that you have good assessment, decision-making, organisational and communication skills, and have a current professional registration.Experience of lower GI disease and bowel cancer screening is helpful but not essential. You will be supported with a comprehensive induction package and mentor. You will be required to complete the Specialist Bowel Cancer Screening Practitioner course at Liverpool John Moore University.
The Kendal post is based at the Westmorland General Hospital. You will cover colonoscopy screening lists at Westmorland General Hospital, Royal Lancaster Infirmary and Furness General Hospital.
Our satellite office is based at The Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle. There may be occasions where you will cover colonoscopy screening lists in The Cumberland Infirmary and The West Cumberland Hospital (in the near future).
The role of the Specialist Screening Practitioner is diverse and involves providing autonomous care to individuals who participate in the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme, offering guidance, support and clinical knowledge at each step of the participant's journey.
Main duties of the job
In this role you will be required to work as part of a national screening service, adhering to nationally and locally agreed policies and guidelines, working closely with the administration staff and the screening hub. You will contribute to the development and quality assurance of the screening programme.
You will have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and a relevant professional background. These are required to maintain and develop relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and provide expert support to patients and their families throughout the screening process.
We are looking for committed, enthusiastic, innovative and flexible individuals with the ability to prioritise a demanding and diverse workload. You will need to work on your own initiative and as a member of a growing and experienced specialist team.
The post does involve travel to other sites, so a current driving licence is ESSENTIAL.
About us
The Cumbria & Morecambe Bay Bowel Cancer Screening Service currently undertakes lists at three main hospitals; Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) (Kendal), Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI) (Lancaster) and The Cumberland Infirmary (CIC) (Carlisle).
We shall shortly be providing a list at Furness General Hospital (FGH) (Barrow) and at The West Cumberland Hospital (WCH) (Whitehaven) in the future.
