Job summary

Under the direction of the Director of Governance, lead patient safety for the organisation and provide expert advice on patient safety.

Responsible for the Leadership and management of the Patient Relations Complaints and PALS Service.

Promote a culture of continuous quality improvement within all facets of the organisation to ensure best practice in the delivery of patient care, ensuring systems support improvements in clinical risk.

Support divisions in developing their risk and governance assurance frameworks.

Participate in education and training programs, developing training programs in patient safety.

Deputise for the Director of Governance with full delegated authority.

Develop external networks in order to learn from best practice and create opportunities for UHMBT to develop patient safety.

Main duties of the job

Continually review the Trust's approach to patient safety in line with national strategy and policy, whilst advising and implementing across the Organisation

Develop, review and implement patient safety and associated policies across the Organisation.

Ensure, in conjunction with Care Group Clinical Directors, Associate Directors of Nursing and Operational Managers, that the processes and structures to facilitate patient safety are established and operational within Care Groups.

Develop methods for monitoring the effectiveness of patient safety activity and ensuring that these systems are implemented across the care groups/organisation through regular audit.

Ensuring that the Trust's patient safety activity and monitoring arrangements comply with the requirements of key external agencies such as commissioners and regulators.

About us

We operatefrom three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, andUlverstonCommunity Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies,daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
