Job summary
The University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMB) invites applications for a full-time ConsultantOrthodontist to join our busyOrthodontic team. This post attracts 10 PA's in total and there may be the opportunity for an honorary teaching position with the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
The post will be based in Lancaster at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary but will also involve clinical activity at other sites within the Trust.
For the successful candidate the job plan will be negotiable.

Main duties of the job
The maxillofacial unit also provides teaching for those for University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) students based at the Morecambe Dental Education Centre and has close links with UCLan School of Dentistry in Preston. The teams has recently been joined by Honorary Consultants in Endodontics, Prosthodontics and Periodontics, based at UCLAN and there is scope for further development in this area.
There are offices, secretarial and computer facilities on all of our sites. We have and electronic EPR and PACs system for radiography and digital photography across the Bay.
There is a fully equipped maxillofacial laboratory based at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary with high quality and skilled technical support.
You should be fully registered with the General Dental Council with a licence to practice and on the specialist list forOrthodontics. You should have successfully completed, or be within 6 months of an SAC approved training inOrthodontics or equivalent at the time of interview.
About us
We operatefrom three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, andUlverstonCommunity Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies,daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

- BDS; Must hold full GDC Registration and GDC Specialist Registration at commencement
- Possession of a certificate of accreditation or eligibility for a CCST in orthodontics or equivalent
- Intercollegiate speciality fellowship Exit Examination in Orthodontics, or within 6 months of ISFE, or equivalent before commencing consultant post.

- Current holder of an NHS or honorary NHS consultant contract in orthodontics are eligible to be shortlisted
- Successful completion of an SAC approved 2-year minimum training programme in a Fixed Term Training Appointment, or Orthodontics, or within 6 months of completion of training, or equivalent, which follows on from the pre CCST training period of 3 years, or equivalent.
- Applicants who are Nationals from another European country, or elsewhere overseas would have to show equivalence to the 5year training period in the NHS required for speciality
