Job summary

An exciting opportunity to join the Occupational Therapy Team as a Clinical Support Worker/Therapy Assistant based at Furness General Hospital.

You will join a dedicated team of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Rehabilitation technical instructors to carry out Occupational Therapy assessments for patient receiving inpatient care and in the community setting. The role involves supporting the therapists to carry out assessments, making onwards referrals to other health and social care teams and carrying out environmental visits to patients homes and provision of equipment as required.

Main duties of the job

Occupational therapy Clinical support worker role will be carried out in the inpatient and community setting. The role requires the post holder to support the therapists to carry out functional assessments with patients with a range of clinical conditions. This will include manual handling as required to assess to meet patients needs. The posts holder will support with delivery and fitting of assistive equipment as directed by the therapist.

Communicating with patients, family and ward staff regarding therapy assessment/interventions will be required.Making onwards referrals to appropriate social and health care providers as required using appropriate IT systems.Supporting the wider Therapy Team at FGH as required.

About us

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Essential

  • NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care or Equivalent level training or relevant experience as a Therapy Assistant/Support Worker.
  • Basic numeracy and literacy (e.g. GCSE level)
  • Basic computer skills

Experience

  • Experience in a Health & Social Care setting.

Desirable

  • Experience in a relevant clinical area in an acute or Community hospital setting
