Job summary

The post holder will work as part of the ENT team to provide a highquality ENT service that aims to provide excellent patient care. Thisincludes delivery of out-patient, emergency, day-case and inpatientservices independently.

The post holder will be expected to manage their own workprogramme within the broad parameters of Department policiesand procedures, and will be responsible for determining theassociated work activities using their initiative.

Working Hours: As job plan

On-call: 1:5 on call weekends and 1:4 weekdays with prospectivecover

The anticipated job plan is included but may be subject to changesand involve working at other sites within the UHMB community

Main duties of the job

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in ENT Surgery at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Foundation Trust. This post is to support the current ENT service Cross Bay. The post holder will work as one of a team of 14, based at the University Hospital Morecambe BayFoundation Trust.

The ENT unit currently includes general rhinology, otology, paediatric and benign head and neck surgery, as well as sub-specialty disciplines such as, sialendoscopy, BAHA's, Trans nasal Oesophagoscopy, DCR's and Thyroid surgery.

About us

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay

Our community services for adults are provided in people's homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.

  • FRCS or an equivalent appropriate higher surgical qualification
  • Entry on the GMC specialist register or be within six months of obtaining your CCT at the time of interview
  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice

Desirable

  • Evidence of audit and research experience
  • Higher professional qualifications in ENT surgery, Teaching or Research and Education

  • Significant experience in management of ENT
