Job summary

We are delighted to offer the opportunity of joining our Physiotherapy Team at Westmorland General Hospital ( WGH) as a Specialist Physiotherapist.

You will work within the MSK physiotherapy WGH team and provide outpatient physiotherapy at Westmorland General Hospital. You will work with a dedicated and motivated team of Physiotherapists and you will be supported by a team of Advanced Physiotherapists across Morecambe Bay.

You will also provide support to team members including Physiotherapists and students. Our primary focus is to deliver high quality, patient-centred care which is evidenced based and sustainable for the future in an ever changing NHS landscape.

To achieve this, we aim to give you the opportunity to develop your skills in a supportive, dynamic environment and to be involved in service development. We have a strong commitment to staff development and service improvement and provide regular supervision and in-service training.

Main duties of the job

  • To work as an individual within the out-patient team in a variety of Clinical areas providing specialist physiotherapeutic assessment, diagnosis, treatment and advice for a range of frequently complex conditions for patients on their caseload.
  • To work as an autonomous practitioner taking responsibility for the management of patients on own caseload without direct supervision
  • To continue to develop specialist clinical skills, knowledge and experience through participation in in-service training sessions and specialist Personal Development as identified in Personal Development Plan's. (E.g. Specialist external courses, Shadowing etc)
  • To supervise, and assist senior staff in the management of physiotherapists and physiotherapy support staff
  • To be responsible for the whole or part of the clinical education and practice of Physiotherapy Undergraduates accepted on clinical placement.
  • To participate in planned research and audit as required

About us

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

  • Degree in Physiotherapy approved by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
