Job summary

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and hardworking individual with knowledge and experience within Breast Diagnostic Services to lead our team as the Head of Department. In this key role you will lead the Breast Screening Service for the North Lancashire and South Cumbria areas and the Radiographic Team for the Trust's Symptomatic Service, liaising with Surgery. The successful candidate will be HCPC registered, with a BSc or diploma in Radiography. A post graduate award in Breast Imaging would be desirable but applications will be considered without this qualification. You will have well developed leadership and strong motivational skills and have had significant experience leading a team, including evidence of staff development. A management qualification would be an advantage but is not necessary.

Main duties of the job

The North Lancashire and South Cumbria Breast Screening Service, as part of the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, operates Breast Screening and Symptomatic services from dedicated imaging units at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Furness General Hospital and Westmorland General Hospital.

In addition, we operate two mobile units in the community.

The North Lancashire and South Cumbria Breast Screening Service is a highly performing service for Breast Screening with a dedicated, caring and professional team of Programme Management and Admin teams, Consultant Radiologists, Consultant Radiographers, Advanced Practitioners, Mammographers, Assistant Practitioners, Clinical Support Workers.

The unit is fully digital with a robust PACS system. Our Radiology team is also part of the strong and effective UHMB Breast Multidisciplinary Team alongside members of the Surgical, Histopathology, Breast Care Nurses and Oncology services.

About us

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
