Job summary

The Pharmacy Department at Westmorland General Hospital is looking for enthusiastic, well-motivated person to join the team in this new, exciting training role.

This is a 2 year fixed term contract under Agenda for Change - Annex 21.

Salary will be 70 %of the top of a Band 3 grade until NVQ Level 2 training is completed (Approximately 18 month qualification). After successful completion of this training the applicant will move to the Band 3 Senior Assistant Technical Officer grade.

This role will start with learning the basic duties within the Pharmacy Service such as delivering medication to the Wards and Departments. Training will progress over the first 12 months within the main dispensary and on the wards, ordering and dispensing medications for in-patients and those being discharged from hospital.

You must be able to work as a team member and on an individual basis.

Upon completion of this 2 year training contract the successful applicant will be in an excellent position to apply for any available Level 3 Pharmacy Apprenticeship where they will gain nationally recognised qualifications and be able to register as a Pharmacy Technician. In addition, there will be more job prospects and the choice to work either in a community pharmacy or in a private or public hospital

Main duties of the job

Working Pattern is Monday to Friday 9:00 to 17:30 with weekend and Bank Holiday work as part of a rotation. Days of work will be discussed at interview.

Previous Pharmacy experience is not essential but we require applicants to have competent IT skills and good basic education including English and Maths to GCSE level.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
