Job summary
Pre-operative assessment is pivotal to the elective surgical pathway and theatre utilisation. We provide robust and in-depth health assessment prior to elective surgery ensuring the patients surgical journey is as safe and timely as possible. The team work autonomously using knowledge and skill to deicide which site a patients operation should be carried out on, helping to reduce cancellations on the day. For those patients who aren't fit to proceed, we plan with patients to ensure they are appropriately optimised to facilitate their surgery when it is safe to proceed.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Pre-Operative Assessment Team at UHMBT as a Band 6.
We have a full-time vacancy for an experienced nurse who wants to learn all aspect's of Pre-Operative Assessment and it's delivery, to primarily support the unit manager with the day to day running of this very busy service. This role would be ideally suited to someone looking to progress their career in Leadership and Management but who also has an understanding of medical condition management and surgical pathways.
Pre-Operative Assessment is based on each of the 3 main sites - Westmorland General Hospital , The Royal Lancaster Infirmary and Furness General Hospital. This role will be based at one of these sites, but will also include around a day a week on each of the other sites.
The successful candidate will be given training and support to become an important part of this department.

About us
We operatefrom three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, andUlverstonCommunity Health Centre.

Our community services for adults are provided in people's homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals.
