We are a multi-disciplinary team who would welcome you to join us.

Main duties of the job

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Integrated Community Stroke Team (ICST) based at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary for 12 month fixed term contract.

We offer a rotation between acute inpatient Stroke and community Stroke rehabilitation, allowing colleagues to be a part of the whole process from admission to discharge and ongoing rehabilitation in the community.

We provide a 6 day service to inpatient pathway and 5 day service in community pathway.

We offer a supportive induction plan with a named mentor and a stroke specific inhouse CPD programme and opportunity to participate in stroke related research via Lancaster University.

Our aim is to ensure all our patients have access to appropriate treatment in the right location. Our approach to stroke services will require a degree of flexibility as well as creative thinking to establish and form new pathways of care.

About us

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Essential

  • Health and Care Professions Council registered Physiotherapist.
  • Honours Degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy approved by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy/ Health and Care Professions Council
  • Evidence of relevant post graduate specialist clinical education

Desirable

  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy

Experience

Essential

  • Comprehensive rotational experience as a Staff grade in the core competencies within physiotherapy for example: elderly care,musculo-skeletal, neurology, orthopaedics and cardio- respiratory care
  • Evidence of effective written and oral communication skills in English in a variety of settings.
  • Experience of working within a team

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working in a relevant clinical area
