Job summary

UHMB have an exciting opportunity available for a Head of Facilities Management to join the Estates & Facilities Senior Management team to provide Leadership of FM services across the Trust's Portfolio (including sites at Lancaster/ Morecambe/ Kendal/ Millom & Barrow)

The Role covers the Leadership Responsibility and accountability for a range of In-house Facilities Management services including Domestic, Catering, Portering, Switchboard, General Office, residential services and Car parking together with External provisions including Waste, Laundry, Patient Transport Services and Medical Gas (Cylinders).

Utilising strong leadership expertise and driving forward the people culture, the post holder will apply technical and managerial skills, to provide high quality, cost effective and efficient services.

They will seek to ensure that UHMB and its services meets all statutory/compliancy requirements and appropriate national standards; contractual and service obligations. This will enable patients, visitors, staff, and all other service users to be provided with safe and secure services.

The role offers an opportunity for digitisation and innovation of services and opportunities to maximise commercial opportunities.

Main duties of the job

You will be part of the Estates & Facilities senior leadership team, which is made up of 5 members , focusing on leadership of our services, and development of a culture where our teams excel.

Leadership Responsibility and accountability for a range of In-house Facilities Management services including Domestic, Catering, Portering, Switchboard, General Office, residential services and Car parking together with External provisions including Waste, Laundry, Patient Transport Services and Medical Gas.

Utilising strong leadership expertise and driving forward the people culture, the post holder will apply technical and managerial skills, to provide high quality, cost effective and efficient services.

The job will include ensuring the efficient and effective use of resources/assets with robust financial/budgetary management and reporting that is in accordance with Standing Financial Instructions (SFI's), meets customer requirements/quality standards, and performance reporting requirements.

The role will include management responsibility for a range of soft FM services, including staff, external contractors and consultants. The post holder will lead in strategic and all operational areas of delivery, including service modernisation.

There is a flexibility around location, and a need for agile working although as a senior management team we need to be visible, and undertake regular visits across the main sites, working from home as part of the role is encouraged.

About us

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life-threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Our community services for adults are provided in people's homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.
