Main duties of the job

About the Role

You'll work within a supportive, forward-thinking team leading and delivering speech and language therapy services to children and young people across a range of settings, including:

  • Schools and nurseries
  • Hospital and Community clinics
  • Homes and virtual platforms

We embrace innovation and collaboration, offering opportunities to develop specialist skills in a wide range of clinical areas. As a Band 5 therapist you will be based within one of our 5 locality teams with opportunities to build knowledge and experience in clinical areas such as: language delay and disorder, speech delay and disorder, autism, learning disability, multi-lingualism, increased vulnerability, stammering and more.

Successful candidate must have access to a vehicle for work purposes to meet the requirements of the role.

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers leadership and improvement training to all new staff. This training programme has been designed to support our staff in developing their understanding of leadership and management skills. You will be expected to attend the following training sessions:

The leadership and improvement programme aims to:o Explore leadership within the NHSo Promote Trust values and behaviourso Develop your leadership effectiveness and skillso Equip you with the necessary knowledge and skills to lead and complete service improvements within the scope of your role.

After you complete these three and a half days of training you will be able to explore further leadership and improvement training opportunities. We also offer further in-house courses and bitesize programmes through our Leadership and Improvement Team.

Essential

  • Knowledge of current national drivers and clinical guidelines, relating to children with speech, language and communication difficulties
  • Ability to manage own time, prioritise tasks and to work independently
  • Ability to analyse and make informed judgements required for the assessment of clients and selection of appropriate management strategies.
  • Able to demonstrate high-level problem-solving skills
  • Ability to demonstrate high level written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to be assertive in relationships with other professionals, clients and carers

Qualifications & Training

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in SLT recognised by the RCSLT and a certificate to practice
  • Registered member of the Health Professions Council.

Desirable

  • Registered member of the RCSLT.
  • Evidence of Achieving Clinical Autonomy (completion of preceptorship for NQPs)

Experience

Essential

  • Experience working as a Speech and Language Therapist (including student placements)
  • Experience of working as a member of a Team
  • Experience of working in schools.

Desirable

  • Experience of working as a member of a multi-agency team
