Clinical Teaching Fellow - Gastroenterology

Applications are invited from registered medical practitioners for a Teaching Fellowship, jointly supervised by the Gastroenterology and Undergraduate directorates within The James Cook University Hospital, South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Close collaboration and flexible working between the two directorates is integral to the appointment, to balance clinical and teaching commitments. Opportunities for experience in service development and research projects in gastroenterology will be strongly encouraged. The post is for 12 months from August however an earlier start could be negotiated. An appropriate salary scale will be agreed with the successful candidate. The successful candidate must be a fully registered medical practitioner who has successfully completed the Foundation Programme or has equivalent training. The post-holder will be given a funded opportunity to undertake the Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education.

Main duties of the job

This post offers an exciting opportunity to join an enthusiastic team of clinical educators within the field of gastroenterology. The aim of this post is to assist with development and delivery of the existing undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes within the gastroenterology department at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Teaching Fellow will also gain clinical experience through contributions to ward work and clinics in gastroenterology. On-call duties may be available subject to the needs of the service and the individual. The post provides the opportunity to undertake the Postgraduate Certificate of Medical Education at Newcastle University.

The post holder will also be encouraged to participate in service development / quality improvement projects within the department. There is also opportunity to gain research experience by supporting the team with existing multi-centre research trials, or by undertaking original research in support of the projects above.

The post holder is expected to work flexibly across the academic year to ensure adequate progress in all main areas of activity. A flexible job plan will be agreed on upon appointment in discussion with the clinical and educational lead.
