Job summary

The Medical Psychology service provides psychological assessment, support and treatment to medical patients. Within this, the adult neuropsychology team provide specialist neuropsychology input to the neurosciences service, including neurosurgery, neurology, neurophysiology, stroke and neurorehabilitation.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 5 Assistant Psychologist to join the team on a fixed term basis, working in neuropsychology.

The role involves working with clinicians to support the delivery of psychological assessment and intervention for people with neurological conditions. This may include: assisting with the delivery of the neuropsychology services (including clinical assessment, formulationand treatment) under supervision,taking into accountthe full range ofneeds including cognitive, psychological,socialand medical factors. This will involve working with adult patients during their hospital stay and through outpatient clinics.

The post holder will have excellent communication skills and will have demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team. Above all you must be passionate about working with those living with neurological conditions and delivery a person centred service.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide, under supervision, a specialist medical psychology / neuropsychology service, ensuring effective,caringand compassionate services to patients.
  • Toundertakepsychological / neuropsychological screening and triage of medical patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

  • To undertake, under supervision, psychological / neuropsychological assessments

  • To deliver, under supervision, psychological interventions in line with agreed protocols for medical patients

  • To work independently according to a plan agreed with a qualified psychologist and within the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures

Essential

  • An upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology (as recognised by the British Psychological Society)
  • Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society

Desirable

  • Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, medical psychology/neuropsychology and/or research design and analysis.
  • Attendance at the leadership and development and improvement programme (4.5 days)

Knowledge

Essential

  • High level communication skills (written and oral) including an ability to communicate highly complex/sensitive information and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive, and where there may be barriers to acceptance.
  • An ability to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines.
