Job summary

There is currently an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the Critical care occupational therapy team on a fixed term contract for maternity cover. The role will be based on the critical care units at James Cook University hospital, providing Occupational Therapy and advice for a multitude of patients with a wide variety of conditions. Excellent communication and organisational skills, enthusiasm, commitment and ability to negotiate across a wide range of agencies are also vital in this post.

Experience of working with neurological conditions is essential. The team is friendly and supportive and there will be the opportunity to develop more advanced clinical, leadership and service development skills, as our staff are encouraged and supported in their continual professional development and through regular clinical supervision.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work within a large multidisciplinary team across three critical care units offering specialist Occupational Therapy assessment, intervention and rehabilitation, providing advice where needed to other professionals regarding the management of neurological conditions.

You will need to be able to work as part of a team and on your own, frequently using your own initiative. The role will require being involved with clients with a range of multiple medical, social and emotional problems, as well as home visits, discharge planning, rehabilitation and education. The ability to travel independently is an essential part of this post.

The neurology team currently provides a 5 day service based at The James Cook University Hospital.

  • BSc or Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC registration
  • Achieved or willing to work towards relevant Post graduate qualification/ training

Knowledge

Essential

  • Basic IT skills to use electronic patient records and other Trust systems
  • Demonstrates analytical skills and judgement when dealing with the therapy management of complex clients.
  • To display effective communication skills, communicating complex, sensitive and contentious information to patients, carers and colleagues
