We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Band 7 Biomedical Scientist to join our Immunology team as part of the Tees Valley Pathology (TVP) service operating out of University Hospital Tees sites (including North Tees and Hartlepool Hospital, Stockton on Tees, Friarage Hospital Northallerton and James Cook University Hospital, Middlesborough). Candidates for this post should be HCPC registered, hold an IBMS accredited specialist portfolio and have experience of working various shifts across both core and non-core hours. Consideration may be given to other healthcare scientist practitioners who demonstrate, on application, the appropriate knowledge, skills and Qualification applicable to the post .
Main duties of the job
You will play a key role in performing, interpreting, and authorising a wide range of specialist Immunology investigations, supporting the diagnosis and management of autoimmune, allergic, and immunodeficiency disorders. The post-holder will also:
Lead and support service improvement and innovation projects to enhance quality, efficiency, and turnaround times.
Supervise day-to-day laboratory operations, staff, and workflows, ensuring service demands and KPIs are met.
Support assay development, validation, and implementation of new technologies.
Maintain UKAS accreditation through effective quality control, audit, and documentation.
Collaborate closely with the clinical lead and other senior staff to develop and deliver a responsive and efficient service.
Provide training, mentorship, and appraisals for Biomedical Scientists, trainees, and support staff.
The department provides a comprehensive regional Immunology service for Tees Valley and other NHS Trusts, processing over 170,000 tests annually.
