Parkinson's Disease Specialist Nurse (Adult)

Job summary

An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen to recruit a Parkinson's Disease Specialist Nurse in Neuroscience and Spinal Care Services. We are seeking a pro-active, hardworking, passionate and forward-thinking individual to provide senior nursing expertise, clinical excellence, leadership, innovation and development in Parkinson Disease and Movement Disorders management. The candidate will have significant experience of working with patients with Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver seamless care for patients in hospital and also in the community setting.

The post will meet the needs of patients local to the The James Cook University Hospital catchment area, as well as those living within the Friarage catchment area of Hambleton and North Yorkshire and will require travel to deliver service to patients, carers in their own homes and professionals across the catchment area.

Please note, if you do not meet the essential criteria for the Band 7 position, a Band 6 trainee post will be considered with uplift to the 7 once all competencies are completed.

Main duties of the job

The job purpose is to provide a specialist nursing service to adults with Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders.

You will provide expert advice, education and support to the patient and their families/carers.

You will provide expert nursing advice and promote a wider understanding of this disease for other professionals through education and training. You will liaise with other healthcare professionals.

The role of the specialist nurse is multifaceted incorporating key functions such as policy and standards development, practice development, service development, education, research and audit and personal and professional development. The ultimate aim is the provision of a cost effective, efficient, excellent quality service which meets the needs of the patient caseload / client group.

You will identify and address your own professional and clinical development needs. You will possess a first level degree and teaching qualification. You will hold or be committed to completing non-medical prescribing and clinical skills. You will deliver autonomous clinical practice in outpatient , inpatient and community settings, working as part of a specialist MDT . You will provide significant teaching, training and education to patients, carers and professionals in a wide range of contexts from bedside to formal settings.
