Senior Physiotherapist

Job summary

To work as a senior physiotherapist within the therapy team at the Friary Hospital and the community therapy team at a highly specialised and advanced level, managing highly complex cases where there may be multiple pathologies.

To act as a highly specialised resource and provide advice to other professionals including medical staff, specialist nurses, social workers, and other therapists regarding older people for a wide range of individuals.

To be able to act both independently and as part of the Therapy team to manage a large caseload of in-patients with needs which are often highly complex as well as patient's in the community who have recently been discharged from the ward.

Undertake specialist assessment in relation to their physical, psychological, social and productivity circumstances and needs

This role does include Bank Holiday working (but not Christmas Day).

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for the delivery of Physiotherapy assessment and treatment to a high professional standard in accordance with Professional Standards and Code of Ethics laid down by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.

To be responsible for maintaining a high standard of therapy services and develop quality improvements appropriate to the needs of the service.

To develop and deliver training, supervision and development of band 5, support staff, students and other health and social care workers as appropriate around area of expertise.

To act as a clinical mentor to junior members of staff.

To develop and improve competence in self and acquire new skills and apply to practice.

To autonomously manage, within appropriate professional guidelines, a caseload of clients with complex needs within departmental, home and community environments.

To respond to identified needs through critical thinking, consideration of a range of options using sound clinical reasoning and professional judgement and communicating these to clients in order to reach a decision, in collaboration with the client (or his representatives) about how to meet those needs.

To provide clinical expertise within own specialist area, with particular expertise in rehabilitation
