Locum Specialty Dentist in Orthodontics

Job summary

The Orthodontic department at South Tees Hospital, based at the James Cook University Hospital site, is looking for a locum Specialty Dentist in Orthodontics.

This is fixed term appointment, initially for up to 9 months to cover maternity leave and recent retirements. Whilst the role is advertised as a full time position applications for reduced hours would be considered.

Main duties of the job

Assessment of new patients referred to the Orthodontic department from general dental practitioners and local Specialists.

To provide orthodontic treatment for patients who are eligible for treatment within the hospital department selected by the Consultant.

To provide the continuation of treatment of cases that were previously undergoing treatment with another clinician under the supervision of the Orthodontic Consultants

To follow the treatment plans devised by the Consultant Orthodontist and any modification required must be done in conjunction with the relevant consultant.

To be competent in providing all aspects of contemporary orthodontic treatment and to be able to work independently. All clinical staff are accountable and responsible for their own clinical competence and should limit their activity to that which is deemed to be within their competence.

  • oFull registration with the United Kingdom General Dental Council (GDC)
  • oMembership in Orthodontics of The Royal College of Surgeons or equivalent

  • oFDSRCS or MFDS or equivalent
  • oMSc in Orthodontics or other equivalent Masters level degree

Experience

  • oThree years full-time postgraduate orthodontic training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) since first obtaining registration
  • oUp to date with current practices in orthodontics
  • oExperienced in the use of removable, functional and straight wire appliances.
