Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a well-motivated and suitably qualified Biomedical Scientist in Microbiology.

The Pathology Departments of both North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Trust and South Tees Hospitals NHS Trust are working collaboratively to develop a joint service from all hospital sites. The department is based at The James Cook University Hospital.

The department has full UKAS accreditation and approved IBMS training. CPD is actively encouraged. Microbiology is a dynamic and forward-thinking department providing an expert 24/7 service across all our hospital sites

We are looking for an enthusiastic Biomedical Scientist to join our Microbiology team. The vacancy is 37.5 hours per week and permanent. You must have an IBMS accredited degree, be registered with HCPC or have successfully completed the registration portfolio assessment and be HCPC registered within 30 days of interview. Applicants not meeting these criteria will not be shortlisted.

Main duties of the job

Under the direction of the Microbiology Management team, the post holder will be required to perform routine day-to-day operations within the Microbiology department, rotating between all sections within the speciality following approved methodologies and procedures.To assist in the training and development of Trainee Biomedical Scientists, Higher Healthcare Science Support Workers, Healthcare Support Workers and other staff grades according to departmental policy.It is expected that the post holder:o will work autonomously without direct supervision.o Will participate in a 24/7 shift system, weekend working, extended working day and out of hours cover applicable to the specific needs of the department.
