An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Cancer Prehabilitation Assistant Practitioner to join our new cancer prehabilitation pilot service (OPTIMISE) that is at the forefront of optimising health and wellbeing for cancer patients across South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust . The post holder will be working under the guidance of the Personalised Cancer Care Prehabilitation Lead to work with and support cancer patients across South Tees to optimise their health and wellbeing ahead of treatment /surgery.
Continuous professional development will be actively encouraged and the post holder will be supported to develop their knowledge and skills with regular support and clinical supervision from the Personalised Cancer Care Prehabilitation Lead
Main duties of the job
You will need to be able to work as part of a team and on your own, frequently using your own initiative and problem-solving skills to support cancer prehabilitation . You will work within a small team and be involved with patients with who have just been diagnosed with, or are highly suspected to have, cancer. The successful applicant will have good communication and literacy skills and basic computer skills. Previous work experience within health or social care setting is essential and experience working with patients who have cancer is desirable but not essential. Participation in service developments and clinical governance is also expected.

- Minimum NVQ Level 3 related qualification (or equivalent) in Physical Activity, Nutrition, Health and Wellbeing or Mental Health or a Level 2 in one of these areas, with working knowledge gained through practical delivery and a commitment to undertake further training
- GCSE in Maths and English (A-C/4-9) or Functional Skills (level 2)
- Knowledge of secretarial and administrative procedures and systems, the majority of which are non-routine, acquired through training and experience; plus knowledge of specialist functional/medical/legal terms, organisational policies and procedures and knowledge and experience to deal with non-routine issues such as problem solving for an area of work or developing alternative or additional procedures

- Attendance at foundation improvement training and the new and aspiring leaders program within first year of role
- Training in exercise or equivalent evidence of underpinning knowledge
- Qualification in Cancer Rehab
