Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within Children's Outpatients, a busy department at The James Cook University Hospital to employ a Clinical Support Worker (CSW). The role is to support the MDT in providing direct patient care to children and young people.
Post holders will be appointed at band 2 or band 3 depending upon qualifications.
Band 2 requirements - willingness to undertake all relevant training and qualifications if wishing to develop into a band 3 role.
Band 3 requirements - Numeracy and Literacy Level 2 or GCSE equivalent (A-C/ 4-9)
Care certificate
Level 3 vocational qualification
or
Short courses and completion of
competency workbook equivalent
to Level 3 in a range of patient and
clinical care duties
and/or
Equivalent knowledge and
experience in a range of clinical
care duties equivalent to Level 3;

There is a clear framework to allow for postholders to develop from a band 2 to band 3 and this includes completion of the qualifications
Main duties of the job
We care for children and young people from birth until 18 years who require care as an outpatient. We facilitate clinics from numerous specialities where a family centred approach to care is essential.
We provide assistance to the whole of the Multi Disciplinary Team to aid the efficient running of the service.
The role involves chaperoning patients during medical consultations, collecting and preparing case notes, undertaking health development measurements (weight, height, BP, ECG), collecting specimens, performing and assisting with venepuncture, monitoring stock levels, preparation and maintenance of clinic rooms and areas, general admin duties such as answering telephone call, emails and making appointments.
Individuals will become proficient with IT systems such as InTouch, ECAMIS and Evolve.

Experience in health care is preferred, with experience working with children and young people desirable. Applicants must demonstrate a high standard of communication and professionalism, be enthusiastic, well motivated and share a commitment to team working.
