Job summary
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a dedicated individual to join the Dosimetry team at the innovative Radiotherapy Centre at The James Cook University Hospital.
This specialist role will include preparing radiotherapy treatment plans, advising medical staff and other healthcare professionals, participating in research trials and ensuring the provision of a high quality radiotherapy service. Your clinical knowledge of relevant equipment and current registration must be complemented by confident communication and excellent interpersonal skills, plus the ability to work independently.
The department is technically advanced where SABR, VMAT, dMLC and vDIBH are all current standards in clinical use. We have a well established SABR service which has been available as a treatment option for our patients since 2009. Dosimetrist plan approval and target volume definition workflows are also fully integrated to a number of our patient planning pathways.
Main duties of the job
The main responsibility of this role is radiotherapy treatment plan production, essential to deliver accurate and high quality radiotherapy to the individual patient. The dosimetrist will undergo training in the dosimetry section to enable them to become competent in planning and proficient in using all computer based systems within Dosimetry.
Treatment plans are produced using Elekta Monaco and RayStation. The department has six Elekta linacs (all equipped with FFF technology). SGRT (Catalyst) and Elekta Clarity are used routinely. ProSoma serves as our virtual simulation software package for planned and unplanned cases. Elekta Mosaiq is currently used for electronic data transfer throughout the radiotherapy department.
Pre-treatment imaging consists of Siemens and Toshiba wide bore CT scanners with full 4D imaging capabilities. The department also has dedicated MRI capacity in main Radiology to aid in target volume definition.
