An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and driven team player to join the rapidly growing pharmacy team at the James Cook University Hospital (JCUH). You will be working within the busy pharmacy dispensary team assisting in the provision of an effective and timely service to the patients and staff of South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust under the leadership of the Senior Pharmacy Technician for Dispensary.
This is a progression post, initially working as a Pharmacy Assistant (band 2) to deliver support to the dispensary team, whilst completing level 2 training to become a Dispenser (band 3).
There is an expectation that the post holder will complete the training within a maximum of 12 months from the date of enrolment. All the relevant support and guidance will be provided from the organisation to complete this training, including mentorship, and allocated study time. Upon successful completion of the training, the post holder will be automatically promoted to a Dispenser (band 3).
Main duties of the job
Applicants who already have dispensing experience and possess the level 2 qualification in dispensing do not need to complete the training and can start as a dispenser (band 3).
The role consists of supporting with running of the pharmacy dispensary including covering reception, using the pharmacy tracking system, packaging medication ready for deliveries, putting away stocks into the pharmacy robot and medication shelves, filing prescriptions and paperwork, expiry date checking, and other general housekeeping duties.
Dispensing a wide variety of prescription types including controlled drugs, prescription only medicines and unlicensed drugs for the inpatients of JCUH and the community hospitals.
Dispensers are based on rotation in the dispensary at JCUH participating in the dispensing services under the management of the Senior Pharmacy Technician for Dispensary and in one of our clinical teams working on the wards under the supervision of pharmacy ward leads.
The successful candidate will work full time, 37.5 hours. 08.30-17:00 Monday - Friday. They will also be included in dispensary and extended/out-of-hours rotas, which are currently:
- Weekend working once every 5 weeks (09:00-17:00) Saturday or Sunday, reimbursed with a full weekday off the following week
- Late night working once every 2 weeks (09:00-17:30)instead of 08.30-17:00
- Contribution to bank holiday working rota
