CONSULTANT HAND AND PLASTIC SURGEON (2024)
We are seeking an enthusiastic colleague to join our team of 9 other consultant Plastic Surgeons, all with a subspecialty interest, based at both The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough and The Friarage Hospital, Northallerton.
This is a substantive full-time post in Hand and Plastic Surgery and is a replacement post for a retiring colleague. The successful candidate will be welcomed into our busy plastic surgery and hand surgery services.The intended start date is from February 2024.
Main duties of the job
This post will combine elective and emergency hand surgery with some general plastic surgery. There is a 1 in 6 on call week for Hand surgery supported by scheduled hand trauma clinics, lists supported by regional anaesthesia, and an experienced hand therapy team. We have dedicated daily weekday trauma hand clinics within the Orthopaedic Trauma Outpatients department and weekend triage clinics in our Plastic surgery dressing clinic. We have daily access to shared emergency theatre lists for adult and paediatric patients and three times weekly specific hand trauma lists. We have a fortnightly job planned MDT meeting for complex cases and education. There is a busy nerve injury service where an interest would be welcomed, supported and developed. The opportunity to contribute to our existing children's hand surgery services or spinal cord injuries upper limb surgery is also available. A microvascular skill set is essential for this post to support our upper and lower limb Major Trauma Centre services.
