Job summary

We are proud to advertise this new and innovative post, and welcome all applicants from motivated and passionate clinical pharmacy technicians who are looking to clinically develop their role. This position is for anAdvanced Clinical Pharmacy Technician in Peri-Operative Medicines Optimisation.

The post-holder will be required to innovatively develop the role, and work on their own initiative. They will work closely with Advanced Clinical Pharmacist for perioperative medicine, as well as within the peri-operative medical/surgical team alongside working as part of the wider pharmacy team, ensuring that services are provided in accordance with relevant professional, ethical, legal and locally agreed policies, procedures, guidelines and standards.

The post-holder will be required to develop excellent rapport with patients as well as the multi-disciplinary team within Peri-operative Medicine and also the ward areas where the patient may be following surgery. Exceptional communication skills are vital for this role.

The post-holder will be a key member of the clinical pharmacy team, making major contributions to the development and delivery of pharmacy medicines management strategies and the implementation of development plans for pharmacy services

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for liaising with patients prior to their surgery, either face to face or over the phone. You will be required to complete a medicines reconciliation with the patient, encourage them to bring in their medications when they attend for surgery, supply them with information on which medications need to be withheld prior to surgery, counsel the patient on any medication they may receive post-surgery, follow up with the patient following surgery and answer any medicine related questions the patient may have.

You will be additionally required to contribute to weekend working service (1 in 5), and late night working (1 in 10) on a rota basis.
