Job summary
The post holder will be responsible for the implementation and delivery of lab systems and processes to support the feasibility, execution and ongoing management of clinical research studies involving the STRIVE Pathology lab and submission of successful grant applications.
In the first instance this role will largely support all lab-based activities and processes for Gynae and Surgical Oncology research trials, but it is anticipated that the role will broaden over time to include other clinical specialties as the need arises.
Main duties of the job
- Establishing processes, SOPs and lab protocols for the safe and effective running of all lab processes relating to open clinical trials
- Assist with the preparation and submission of external funding applications for research studies. They will be responsible for providing academic and scientific support as well as co-ordinating appropriate input from all relevant parties to ensure scientifically sound and accurate proposals are submitted.
- Assist with the submission of studies for approval by the Health Research Authority and advise the sponsor on all matters relating to the submission for the CI.
- Responsible for the day-to-day monitoring of ongoing research studies to ensure that all relevant procedures outlined in the study specific protocol and laboratory manual are met within agreed timelines. Produce regular updates against progress
- Comply with the Health Research Authority (HRA) guidance for new research studies, including applicable legislation/frameworks with continuous review and process improvement
- Laboratory testing includes handling specimens, performing tissue culturing and the preparation and partial testing of blood biomarkers
- Perform an annual audit to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, frameworks and internal policies and processes.
