An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team of band 6's to lead the Post Anaesthetic Care Unit(PACU) at James Cook University Hospital, which has an established reputation for being a warm, welcoming and supportive department.

Main duties of the job

PACU supports The James Cook University Hospital Theatre department and surgical services to deliver an enhanced immediate recovery pathway for the initial 24 to 48 hours post operatively prior to returning to the general ward. PACU works closely alongside the surgical and anaesthetic Multi-Disciplinary Team caring for post-operative patients from many specialities including Orthopaedics, neurosurgery, Urology, General Surgery, Gynaecology, ENT, Maxillo Facial, Plastic Surgery, vascular surgery and cancer services. This opens up a diverse range of development opportunities for nurses embarking on their career in critical care or those experienced nurses with an enthusiasm for lifelong learning.

PACU has 5 enhanced recovery beds and supports the Elective Surgery program Monday to Saturday inclusively, with 12 hour shifts covering both days and nights. Full and part-time applicants are welcomed.

The educational team within theatres and committed senior leadership team allows us to offer education and development opportunities for staff at all levels. This includes an extensive portfolio of academic and clinical courses aligned to neighbouring universities through to leadership programmes of learning.
