A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen to join South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trusts specialist Upper GI cancer team. You will be working alongside an established team of clinicians, Specialist Nurses & cancer care coordinator to further develop this specialist service. This role requires an experienced clinician with team working and communication skills, delivering effective evidence based care to a defined demographic population with diverse health care and social needs.
Main duties of the job
The post will also work to raise the profile of Upper GI cancer and its treatments. This will require networking with NHS services, voluntary organisations and community/faith groups outside the South Tees Trust. This will involve working with teams and managers to support service redesign to ensure that services are focused on patient and clinical needs.
We are inviting applications from highly-motivated Registered Nurses with excellent communication/interpersonal skills. You should havepost-registration experience and be passionate about cancer care. You will be expected to work on both of our acute hospital sites and be adaptable & flexible in your approach.
Although the requirement of this advert is for a band 7 cancer Specialist Nurse, the team would be happy to consider applicants who may not meet all aspects of the job description, but who could work in a band 6 support role with development into the band 7 role over a period of time.

South Tees Hospitals is the largest hospital trust in the Tees Valley with two acute hospitals and services in a number of community hospitals.
The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough is a designated major trauma centre and provides all its specialties from one site which is unique for a hospital of its size. It provides a wide range of district general hospital services and specialist services such as neurosciences, renal medicine, spinal injuries, major trauma, cardiothoracics, vascular surgery and cancer services. It has 1,024 beds, a 24-hour acute admissions unit and an emergency department which houses the major trauma centre for Durham, East Cleveland, Tees Valley and North Yorkshire and has its own helipad. In 2012 the Middlesbrough hospital completed a £35 million redevelopment of its cancer services and is now proud to provide some of the best facilities in Europe. The James Cook University Hospital has a modern, central operating suite containing 20 well-equipped theatres and a 16-bedded intensive care unit. There is also an Institute of Learning, Research and Innovation on site, embracing postgraduate medical education, undergraduate teaching centre, nurse training school, the school of radiography and library facilities.
The Friarage Hospital in Northallerton is an essential part of our organisation and an important point of delivery for the community. It is one of the smallest district general hospitals in the country and has 189 inpatient beds.
