Job summary
The Adult Social Care function for individuals with mental health needs is undergoing a significant transformation in Gloucestershire. Currently based within Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust (GHC), the mental health social care offer is transitioning back to Gloucestershire County Council over the next 12 months.
This is a unique opportunity to be part of a service in transition -- shaping the future of mental health social care in Gloucestershire.
We are seeking experienced and passionate Mental Health Social Workers or Adult Social Care Social Workers with an interest in mental health. You will play a key role in managing new requests for support, so a strong working knowledge of the Care Act 2014 and Section 117 aftercare duties is essential.
You will be based within our Community Mental Health Teams, working in a multi-disciplinary environment alongside NHS colleagues. The ability to travel independently across Gloucestershire is essential, as our locations are widespread and often rural.

Main duties of the job
- Fulfilling delegated Adult Social Care statutory duties on behalf of the Local Authority
- Completing timely assessments under the Care Act 2014 and Section 117 of the Mental Health Act
- Working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary and multi-agency teams across Gloucestershire and beyond
- Practising in line with Care Act principles, focusing on prevention, reduction, and delay
- Supporting individuals under s117 with a focus on independence, recovery, and social inclusion
- Promoting and enabling access to universal services to meet care and support needs

However, we also know we have plenty of room for improvement in many areas. To that end, we continue to prioritise and invest in our commitment to genuinely becoming a Great Place to Work with consistent top-quartile performance in the annual staff survey and Pulse surveys.
