This role is offered on an Apprenticeship basis for 25 months.

The Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship at Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable clinical experience and training in community hospital settings.

An apprenticeship is suitable for anyone who has an interest in pursuing a career within healthcare as well as gaining a Level 3 Diploma.

Alongside this full-time healthcare assistant role you will be enrolled onto the Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship Programme and will be expected to study and complete assignments to achieve a recognised Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker qualification. The apprenticeship will include the expectation to complete the Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship within an 24 month timeframe which includes an end point assessment.

This post is open to candidates who are looking to start their career in a nursing/healthcare environment with no previous experience or alternatively the more experienced carer looking for a change to further their clinical knowledge and skills.

Main duties of the job

As a Health Care Assistant you will be responsible for participating and assisting in the delivery of care to patients.

You will work as part of the theatre and endoscopy team as a motivated health care assistant to deliver high standard individualised care. Working in partnership with qualified members of team to deliver high-quality service to patients in a variety of surgical specialities. You will need to undertake key roles identified by the line manager which will assist in smooth running of Department.

Following supervision and appropriate training the Apprentice Healthcare Assistant will be expected to efficiently undertake basic duties, this may include the following:

  • To adhere to trusts policies and procedures and to abide by any employment laws.
  • To communicate with internal and external agencies using phone/fax/letters/forms.
  • To communicate effectively with patients showing regard for their individual needs and for their right to confidentiality.
  • To ensure all patient records are kept up to date, accurate and stored safely.
  • To prepare patient transport trolleys/beds/wheelchairs for use where required.
  • To have awareness and understanding of universal precautions, health and safety / infection control / waste disposal policies.
  • To participate in maintaining a safe environment for patients in the departments. Being aware of the security of the department, patients and equipment
  • To use equipment safely and appropriately, following local instruction.
